Every July Swimcloud updates its recruit rankings and base times they are based on. That means in the next week your recruiting score, and possibly your ranking, are about to change. In advance of this year’s rankings update we wanted to let you know why we do this and how we go about it.
First, a primer on the Power Index
You can learn more about how we calculate power indexes here, but here are three terms to keep in mind here:
Power Index - This is your “recruit score” and is the weighted average of a your power points in up to five different events.
Power Points - are points assigned to each swimmer’s best time in each event. These are based on base times.
Base Times - are calculated for each individual event and based on the actual times needed to qualify for the NCAA Division I Swimming & Diving Championships. FINA also uses base times to calculate FINA Points (though theirs are based off of world records).
